Science for REACH and CLP Compliance

Event type: Seminar
Location: LGC Teddington
Start Date: 04/11/10
Duration: afternoon
Cost: free

Compliance with the REACH and CLP Regulations relies on sound, fit-for-purpose analytical measurement, coupled with the effective use of scientific data in communicating the hazards and risks of chemicals. To this end, it is vital to build working links between measurement scientists, data communicators and those involved in higher-level compliance activities such inventory planning and dossier submission. The Government Chemist perceives a need for wider networking across these essential compliance roles.

We were therefore delighted when the Chemical Hazards Communication Society agreed to collaborate in planning and promoting an event that would develop a more joined-up understanding of scientific requirements arising under REACH and CLP. Despite the exceptional challenges posed by imminent regulatory deadlines, together we attracted a varied group of over 75 scientists and decision makers, achieving the critical mass needed to reflect on the emerging issues and their practical consequences.
