Andrew Damant
Andrew holds BSc and PhD degrees in Food Science and also has an MBA through the Open University. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Food Science and Technology, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry and a Chartered Scientist. He is a qualified PRINCE II Practitioner.
Andrew leads the Scientific Methods and Laboratory Policy Branch at the Food Standards Agency and is responsible for Agency policy on UK national reference laboratories and official control laboratories. Andrew is an official UK delegate on numerous BSI, CEN and ISO standardisation committees. He manages the Agency’s collaborative trial programme and also the Agency’s research programme on methods of analysis and scientific data quality. Andrew is a member of the Royal Society of Chemistry Analytical Methods Committee (AMC) where he also chairs the AMC Animal Feed Sub-Committee and is deputy editor of the AMC Technical Briefs. Andrew is the chairman of the GeMMA Advisory Committee. He is a member of the FAPAS Advisory Committee, the Defra Authenticity Steering Committee and the Defra Authenticity Methodological Working Group.
